Acupuncture is a treatment that came from Chinese medicine where small, thin needles are inserted in to the body at differing points, depending on the problem being treated.

 

Medical acupuncture is more widely used within my clinic, which is where following a medical diagnosis, the needles are targeting a specific site area of injury with the aim being to stimulate sensory nerves under the skin and in the surrounding muscles.

 

When acupuncture is used in the correct way, it has been found to release endorphins which can produce a morphine-like effect. A treatment course of acupuncture has been found to create longer lasting pain relief compared to a single treatment.
