GYM BASED REHABILITATION

At Athletic Physiotherapy I am a strong advocate of a progressive, structured gym based rehabilitation programme to follow under my supervision for the first part, but also for my patients to have the confidence and education from myself to be able to carry on independently.

 

The gym based exercises are designed specifically to the individual, aiding them in getting back to doing exactly what they want do. Ensuring along the way that full movement is regained as well as strength, speed, proprioception, coordination and endurance before returning to a desired sport, hobby or day to day tasks of living.

 

A common theme I see within physiotherapy is solely concentrating on the treatment room. When you are returning to physical activities following injury, it is paramount that your body is strengthened and prepared within the gym to build general robustness within the body to decrease the likelihood of reinjuring yourself. During this process of rehabilitation in the gym, the body’s injured tissues will be stressed and strengthened prior to returning to your physical activity ensuring your body is able to cope with the demands put up on it.
